I was employed by Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service for 25 years, and was a specialist fire safety officer for 15 years. I therefore have a great deal of experience in the field of technical fire safety, working on a large variety of premises including schools, residential care establishments, houses in multiple occupation, offices, shops, factories and licensed premises.
I am fully aware of the requirements of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 having been part of the training team who taught the new legislation to Fire Safety officers throughout the north-west.

I take pride in being able to understand the problems which face particular businesses and have personal experiences of working in the following fields:

  • Schools - I was a school governor at a variety of schools for over 10 years and I'm also a fully qualified teacher for post 16 year olds, having gained a Post Graduate Certificate in Education from the University of Huddersfield in 2002.
  • Playgroups and day-nurseries - My wife runs a playgroup and whilst I don't get actively involved in the day to day work, I do carry out a lot of the administrative tasks
  • Licensed premises - One of my particular references in the fire service was licensed premises and prior to joining the fire service I worked as a barman and a door supervisor.

Due to my work with the playgroup and as the team manager for a junior rugby team I have undergone the CRB enhanced disclosure procedure.
I am a member of the Institution of Fire Engineers and hold my own personal professional indemnity insurance.
